Who doesn’t love a visit to a Christmas Market? Here’s a guide to some of the events taking place in Yorkshire over the next couple of months:
Christkindelmarkt, Leeds, 11th November to 18th December
This traditional German Christmas Market in Millenium Square has around 50 wooden stalls and carousel rides for children. After browsing the stalls you can sample some German delicacies such as schnitzels and stollen.
Harrogate Christmas Market, 17th – 20th November
A fabulous 4-day Christmas extravaganza which has over 200 stalls selling a variety of local Yorkshire food and gifts. You’ll also includes real reindeer and a Santa’s grotto to keep the children entertained. The Christmas Market has a fabulous setting on The Stray in the historic Montpellier Quarter.
St Nicholas Fayre, York, 17th November – 23rd December
Christmas in York kicks off on the 17th November with the switching on of the Christmas Lights and the start of late night shopping. The Fayre itself consists of around 100 festive chalets decorated with twinkling lights. You’ll find them in various spots around the city including Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square.
Richmond Town Christmas Market, 4th December
The pretty market town of Richmond will be transformed into a winter wonderland with stalls, live music and more. Activities include an Angel Trail, story telling and children’s crafts.
Knaresborough Christmas Market, 3rd – 4th December
This bustling Christmas Market takes place on the cobbled Knaresborough Market Square. You will find a variety of stalls, a brightly lit Christmas tree and some festive entertainment.
Skipton Yuletide Festival and Christmas Market, 4th and 11th December
The market runs the full length of Skipton High Street and includes a range of stalls and festive entertainment. This festive day out will finish with a traditional carol service at Holy Trinity Church.
Malton Christmas Food Market, 10th December
The monthly food market is given a festive twist in December. Expect lots of treats for Christmas amongst the usual local produce and cookery demonstrations.
The Wold’s Christmas Festival, 18th December
A vintage funfair, Christmas jumper competition and Santa’s reindeer are just some of the things that will accompany the range of food, craft and gift stalls at the Driffield Showground.
Winter Wonderland at Tennant’s Garden Room, 9th and 10th December
Following a successful event in 2015, the Garden Rooms will once again be transformed into a Winter Wonderland and Christmas Fair. A selection of gifts from local designers will be available available to purchase.
Beverley Festival of Christmas, 11th December
This is one of the largest one day Christmas Festivals in the UK. A Victorian market contains over 100 stalls and there are also marching bands and a variety of music and dancing displays. The highlight of the day is watching Santa on his sleigh, drawn through town by some live reindeer.
